Jammu and Kashmir Budget Criticized by People’s Conference Chief Sajad Lone
People’s Conference chief and Handwara MLA Sajad Lone has voiced his criticism of the Jammu and Kashmir government’s budget, stating that it lacks political direction and appears to have been primarily drafted by bureaucrats. He expressed disappointment in the lack of significant improvements over the previous year.
During a press conference, Lone, as reported by a news agency, remarked, “The budget is on par with last year, if not worse. I would go as far as to say it is just as bad as before.”
He further alleged that the budget showcases bureaucratic dominance rather than political decision-making. “This budget seems to be a product of bureaucrats, with minimal political input,” he added.
Lone also raised concerns about the government’s excessive gratitude towards the Centre, pointing out the absence of an independent policy framework. “Their constant expressions of gratitude towards the Centre are concerning,” he emphasized.
Questioning the government’s claims of financial constraints, Lone noted that the budget itself does not reflect any such limitations. “There don’t seem to be any financial restrictions in this budget. Even tax collection doesn’t appear to be constrained,” he observed.
Moreover, he criticized the government’s decision to backtrack on its promise of providing 12 free LPG cylinders annually to all impoverished families, restricting the benefit to Antyodaya Anna Yojana beneficiaries. Lone expressed skepticism about the delivery of even this revised benefit, labeling it as a step back.
It is evident that Sajad Lone is critical of the Jammu and Kashmir budget, highlighting concerns about its bureaucratic nature, lack of political input, and questionable policy decisions. His remarks shed light on the need for a more balanced and transparent financial approach.
