US President Donald Trump Endorses Board of Peace for United Nations
In a recent statement, US President Donald Trump expressed his belief that working with the Board of Peace would be a positive development for the United Nations. He criticized the UN for failing to reach its full potential and highlighted the potential for collaboration with the Board to address issues such as the situation in Gaza.
During a press briefing onboard Air Force One en route to Joint Base Andrews from Davos, Trump emphasized the importance of the United Nations realizing its great potential. He acknowledged that while he had not directly engaged with the UN on the topic of ending wars, he saw the Board of Peace as a valuable partner in advancing global peace efforts.
At a ceremony in Davos, Switzerland, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, Trump officially endorsed the Charter of the Board of Peace, establishing it as an international organization. As the Chairman of the Board, Trump was joined by representatives from various countries committed to promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in Gaza.
Among the countries that signed the Charter of the Board of Peace are Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bulgaria, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Mongolia, Morocco, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, UAE, and Uzbekistan.
Following the launch of the Board of Peace, Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting Security Council Resolution 2803, which endorsed the creation of the Board for Gaza. Dujarric highlighted the UN’s ongoing humanitarian aid efforts in Gaza and its collaboration with the US authorities in this regard.
Dujarric emphasized the UN’s unique position as the only international organization with universal membership and underscored the organization’s dedication to upholding international law and its charter. He praised the Secretary-General’s unwavering commitment to fulfilling the UN’s mandates.
Trump’s endorsement of the Board of Peace for Gaza raised speculation about the potential for it to replace the United Nations in addressing global challenges. Trump’s comments underscored his belief that the UN has not fully lived up to its potential, leaving room for alternative approaches to international peace and security.
