Development Plans for Jammu and Kashmir Cities and Towns
In a recent announcement, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah revealed that the Jammu and Kashmir government has officially notified master plans for the capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar, as well as the towns of Udhampur and Katra. Additionally, plans for 25 more towns, including Pattan, have been approved for the formulation of GIS-based master plans under the AMRUT 2.0 initiative.
During a session at the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah responded to queries from National Conference MLA Javaid Riyaz Bedar, providing detailed insights into the ongoing urban development projects in the region. He mentioned, “The work on developing the master plan for Pattan town has been entrusted to the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) Bhopal, with an agreement signed on September 10, 2025. The expected completion time for this project is six months.”
Furthermore, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah highlighted the progress made in finalizing the local area plan for Pattan, indicating that significant strides have been made in this regard.
Moreover, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of planned development and infrastructure enhancement in major tourism destinations within the Union Territory. He mentioned that master plans for key tourism development authorities such as Patnitop, Pahalgam, Sonamarg, and Gulmarg have already been formulated, notified, and are currently undergoing implementation. These initiatives aim to facilitate systematic beautification and infrastructural upgrades in order to enhance the overall tourism experience in these popular destinations.
