Tragic Shooting Incident Claims Lives of Four Adults, Including Indian National in Georgia
The Consulate General of India in Atlanta has expressed profound sadness over a tragic shooting incident in Georgia that resulted in the deaths of four adults, one of whom was of Indian nationality. The Consulate has pledged full support to the grieving family during this difficult time.
According to a statement released by the Consulate, the shooting incident, believed to be linked to a family dispute, has left the Indian community in mourning. The alleged perpetrator has been apprehended, and the Consulate is offering all possible assistance to the affected family.
The heartbreaking incident unfolded in a Lawrenceville-area neighborhood, where Gwinnett County Police responded to a distress call early on Friday morning. Upon arrival at the scene on Brook Ivy Court, officers discovered four adults with gunshot wounds, all of Indian descent, who tragically did not survive.
Authorities have confirmed that the shooting was a result of a domestic conflict. Shockingly, three young children were present in the house at the time of the incident. The children, displaying remarkable courage and presence of mind, sought refuge in a closet together to shield themselves from harm. One of the children was able to contact emergency services, providing crucial information that enabled swift police intervention.
Thanks to the prompt response, law enforcement arrived while the suspect’s vehicle was still on the premises. Concerned about the potential threat posed by the shooter, police deployed K-9 units for a thorough search. A police dog successfully tracked down the suspect in a nearby wooded area, leading to his arrest without further incident.
Fortunately, the children escaped physical harm during the ordeal and were later entrusted to the care of a family member.
Suspect Charged in Connection with the Tragic Incident
Following the investigation, Gwinnett County Police identified the suspect as Vijay Kumar, a 51-year-old resident of Atlanta. Kumar has been formally charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated assault, felony murder, malice murder, cruelty to children, among others.
The victims, identified by police, include Kumar’s wife, Meemu Dogra, aged 43, along with Gourav Kumar, Nidhi Chander, and Harish Chander, all residents of Lawrenceville.
Reports suggest that the altercation initially began between Dogra and Kumar in their Atlanta residence before escalating at the Brook Ivy Court location, where the tragic shooting took place, with their 12-year-old child present.
The investigation into this devastating incident is ongoing as authorities strive to uncover further details surrounding the circumstances leading to the fatal outcome.
