Er. Pirzada Hidayatullah Represents Jammu & Kashmir at AIPEF Meeting in Kolkata
On January 19, in Srinagar, Er. Pirzada Hidayatullah, the President of the J&K Electrical Engineering Graduates Association (JKEEGA) and Vice Chairman of the All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF), took part in the high-level Federal Executive Meeting of AIPEF held in Kolkata on January 18, 2026.
Chaired by Shailendra Dubey, Chairman AIPEF, the meeting brought together senior power sector engineers and representatives from various state constituents to deliberate on the changing dynamics of the Indian power sector.
Fighting Against Privatization of the Power Sector
A key focus of the federal meet was the united stand against the privatization of the power sector by all state constituents. The federation strongly opposed the Electricity Amendment Bill 2025, expressing concerns that the proposed amendments could jeopardize the nation’s energy security and result in higher tariffs for consumers and farmers.
Strengthening the Distribution Sector
During his address to the federal executive, Er. Pirzada Hidayatullah emphasized the importance of enhancing the distribution sector internally to counter privatization efforts. He advocated for improving operational efficiency and enhancing service delivery to the public as a means to deter private sector intervention.
Hidayatullah stressed, “Our priority should be to bolster the distribution infrastructure and ensure customer satisfaction. A robust, efficient, and customer-centric state-owned utility is the most effective defense against government privatization initiatives.”
Unity Among Power Engineers for Sector Protection
The meeting concluded with a call for solidarity among power engineers and workers nationwide to uphold the public nature of the power sector. The AIPEF leadership warned of democratic protests in all states and Union Territories if stakeholders’ concerns regarding the 2025 Bill were disregarded.
