The Importance of Teachers in Shaping Society
In a recent One Day Convention of Teachers in Udhampur, Minister Sakeena Itoo emphasized the crucial role of teachers in creating a progressive and enlightened society. She highlighted the significant impact teachers have beyond the confines of classrooms, shaping responsible citizens and fostering societal values.
The Minister commended the visionary decision of former Chief Minister, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, in introducing the Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) scheme. This initiative revolutionized the education sector in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly benefitting students in remote areas who previously had limited access to quality education.
Recognizing the dedication of teachers, Minister Sakeena acknowledged their contribution to nurturing future leaders, including many prominent civil servants who received their education from government schools. She stressed the importance of continuous professional development and innovative teaching methods to meet the evolving needs of students.
Director School Education Jammu echoed the government’s commitment to enhancing the education sector, citing ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure, teaching standards, and overall learning experience in educational institutions across the region. Various reformative measures are underway to elevate educational standards and promote holistic learning.
During the event, teachers expressed appreciation for the government’s initiatives, such as adjusting the academic session, regularizing CPWs, and addressing long-standing issues like seniority lists and teacher postings. They also raised important concerns regarding teachers’ benefits, including leave salary, pension schemes, and timely disbursement of dues.
Minister Sakeena further emphasized the need to strengthen the teacher-student relationship, emphasizing mutual respect, trust, and understanding as essential foundations for educational institutions. Positive reforms are being considered to enhance this relationship and foster a conducive learning environment for students.
As a testament to the government’s dedication to social welfare, Minister Sakeena distributed sewing machines to women beneficiaries and awarded bicycles to school children for their exceptional performance in national sports championships and academic activities. These initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to holistic development and empowerment.
