Interpol Red Notice Imminent for Accused in White-Collar Terror Module
An Interpol Red Corner notice is on the brink of being issued against Dr Muzaffar Rather, a key figure in the white-collar terror module. Recent revelations have implicated him as a co-conspirator who provided crucial logistical support and funding from Afghanistan for the tragic blast near Delhi’s Red Fort on November 10. Official sources disclosed this information on Sunday.
Dr. Rather, a pediatrician from South Kashmir, has already been declared a proclaimed offender by a special NIA court. The forthcoming Interpol notice for Dr. Rather, who played a significant role in logistics, funding, communication, and planning alongside Dr. Umar-un-Nabi, the driver of the car laden with explosives that caused the fatal explosion near the Red Fort, is currently in progress.
Authorities allege that Dr. Rather has emerged as a primary co-conspirator who orchestrated the attack from overseas after fleeing India. A trail of logistics, encrypted communications, and radicalization efforts have been traced back to safe havens in Afghanistan, where Dr. Rather is believed to be in hiding.
It is alleged that Dr. Rather provided essential support to Umar and handlers in Afghanistan, assisting in logistics, communication, funding, and planning. His involvement, particularly in liaison and funding, is deemed crucial in the execution of the attack.
Investigators revealed that Dr. Rather maintained continuous contact with the terrorists, aiding in communication with handlers in Afghanistan for bomb-making information and operational strategies. Having left India in mid-August before the Delhi blast, Dr. Rather traveled to Dubai and then crossed into Afghanistan, where he is currently evading capture.
Further investigations into the white-collar terror module indicate that Dr. Rather allegedly assisted in raising funds for the terror plot, contributing approximately Rs 6 lakh to the financial pool. In 2021, Dr. Rather, along with Dr. Muzammil Ahmad Ganaie and Umar, traveled to Turkey, with intentions of establishing contact with external handlers or making a transit attempt to Afghanistan. While they did not enter Afghanistan at that time, the journey was part of their radicalization and preparatory network activities.
The terror plot began to unravel when Srinagar police’s meticulous investigation led to the arrest of Ganaie and the seizure of explosives, prompting Umar to prematurely trigger the explosion near the Red Fort. The intricate inter-state terror network was exposed following the discovery of JeM posters in Srinagar, leading to a series of arrests and the seizure of a significant amount of explosive material.
