Srinagar Speaker Rejects Amendment on Article 370
Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Abdul Rahim Rather made an announcement on Monday regarding the rejection of an amendment proposed by Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone on the issue of Article 370. This decision was made as a resolution on the same matter had already been passed by the House.
Following the conclusion of Question Hour, Lone raised concerns with the Speaker about the disallowance of amendments related to Article 370, Article 35A, statehood, and reservation rationalization.
The Speaker explained that the rejection of the amendment was based on the Rules which prohibit discussions on topics that have already been debated or decided upon by the House, as reported by the news agency KNO.
Regarding the issue of statehood, the Speaker clarified that the restoration of statehood falls outside the Government’s jurisdiction.
Lone contested the ruling, emphasizing that his intention was not to pass a law on statehood but to express a desire for its restoration.
