Relief for Jammu and Kashmir as Timely Snowfall Ends Prolonged Dry Spell
In a significant development for Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has highlighted the positive impact of the recent snowfall in the region. Speaking from Banihal during his journey from Srinagar to Jammu, Abdullah emphasized that the timely snowfall has brought relief from a prolonged dry spell, which had raised concerns about potential water shortages in the upcoming summer months.
Abdullah commended the snowfall for ending the drought-like conditions that had persisted since December 2025, stating, “We should thank Almighty Allah that the snowfall occurred at the right time.” He expressed optimism that the recent snowfall would ensure sufficient water availability in the coming months, echoing the sentiments of many residents whose prayers have been answered.
During his visit, Abdullah also inspected the condition of the vital Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) and engaged in discussions with the local MLA of Banihal. He assured that any minor inconveniences caused by the snowfall would be promptly resolved, with restoration work on NH-44 progressing swiftly. The Chief Minister noted that electricity supply has been largely restored across most areas, with efforts underway to address power outages in remote districts that experienced heavy snowfall.
While acknowledging that restoration efforts in certain far-flung areas might take slightly longer due to heavy snow accumulation, Abdullah received assurances from the administration that electricity would be fully restored by the evening. He emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring essential services reach all residents, especially in regions facing challenges due to the inclement weather.
Looking ahead to the upcoming budget session, Abdullah hinted at a people-centric approach, promising that the budget would bring tangible benefits to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir. “Please wait for the budget. It will be for the benefit of the people,” he affirmed.
