Srinagar-Jammu National Highway Open for Two-Way Traffic Despite Slow Movement
In Ramban on January 17, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway saw the continuation of two-way movement for both Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and heavy vehicles on Saturday. Traffic authorities have indicated that, weather permitting and with favorable road conditions, the highway is anticipated to remain open for two-way traffic on Sunday as well.
Throughout the day, traffic flow experienced delays at various points due to the single-lane road conditions. Reports from officials highlighted traffic congestion at Balli Nullah, Dewal, Nashri-Dalwas, Maroog, and Kishtwari Pather stretches between Udhampur and Banihal. The situation was exacerbated by the breakdown of two heavy vehicles at different locations, leading to further delays.
Despite the sluggish movement at certain stretches, hundreds of LMVs and heavy vehicles successfully crossed the Chenani-Nashri and Banihal-Qazigund tunnels until late Saturday evening, with traffic authorities in Ramban district managing the flow.
Advisory for Travelers on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway
In a fresh advisory issued for Sunday, the Traffic Department emphasized that the highway will be open for all vehicle categories during the day, contingent upon fair weather and favorable road conditions. LMV operators and private car owners were urged to plan their journeys during daylight hours and avoid traveling at night.
The advisory cited concerns regarding shooting stones, landslides, and ongoing construction work between the Ramban and Banihal sectors, highlighting potential inconvenience for commuters. Drivers were reminded to adhere strictly to lane discipline, traffic regulations, and refrain from overtaking or wrong-side driving to prevent traffic congestion and delays.
Furthermore, commuters were advised to stay informed with the latest traffic advisories before embarking on their journeys to ensure a smooth travel experience.
