PDP President Mehbooba Mufti Advocates for Peace and Development in Jammu and Kashmir
The president of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti, emphasized the party’s primary goal of restoring peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir through dialogue, development, and unity among its regions. Mufti criticized the National Conference and the BJP for misinterpreting her proposal to grant divisional status to the Pir Panjal and Chenab Valley regions, clarifying that the aim was purely administrative to ensure balanced development and improved governance in neglected areas.
Expressing the PDP’s singular agenda, Mufti highlighted the importance of peaceful resolution through dialogue, drawing on the legacy of her father, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who fostered dialogue both within J-K and with Pakistan during the AB Vajpayee era. She emphasized the need for constructive engagement to achieve peace, prosperity, and unity within the region.
Responding to criticism from National Conference president Farooq Abdullah regarding the divisional status proposal, Mufti acknowledged his stature as a leader in J-K but disagreed with his interpretation, pointing out historical context related to the Dixon plan. She underscored the PDP’s commitment to the region’s progress, unity, and engagement with its people.
Mufti highlighted the challenges faced by the Pir Panjal and Chenab Valley regions, emphasizing the need for empowerment, democratic governance, and administrative improvements. She rejected insinuations by the BJP regarding hidden agendas and emphasized the party’s focus on the welfare of the people in these regions.
Regarding recent incidents involving journalists in Srinagar, Mufti condemned the actions and expressed disappointment at the lack of response from Abdullah. She reiterated the PDP’s stance on regional development and unity, emphasizing the party’s commitment to inclusive governance and dialogue.
