Jammu and Kashmir Home Department Suspends Mobile Data Services in Kishtwar District
The Jammu and Kashmir Home Department has taken a proactive security measure by temporarily suspending mobile data services in select areas of Kishtwar district. This suspension includes 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G services to ensure the safety and security of the region.
Effective from 12:01 am on January 29, 2026, until 11:59 pm on January 30, 2026, mobile internet services have been halted in Singhpora, Chingam, and Chatroo areas of Kishtwar. This decision was made to prevent any potential misuse by anti-national elements, as stated in the official order issued by Principal Secretary, Home Department, Chandraker Bharti.
The order was issued based on inputs from the Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, who is the authorized officer under the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Services Rules, 2024. The directive specifies a six-kilometer radius around each of the identified locations for the suspension of services.
Authorities have highlighted the possibility of miscreants exploiting high-speed mobile data services to disrupt public order and threaten the security of the Union Territory. As a result, the decision to suspend mobile data services was made in the interest of the sovereignty and integrity of India, the security of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, and the maintenance of public order.
This suspension order has been formally confirmed under the relevant provisions of the Telecommunication Act, 2023, and the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Service Rules, 2024. It underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding the region against any potential threats posed by misuse of mobile data services.
Stay tuned for further updates on this developing situation.
