Putin to Visit India for 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit
During his upcoming visit to India, President Putin will attend the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit and engage in discussions with Prime Minister Modi, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs on Friday.
The President of India will also welcome Putin and host a banquet in his honor. This visit presents an opportunity for the Indian and Russian leadership to assess the progress in bilateral relations, define the vision for enhancing the ‘Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership’, and exchange views on regional and global matters of mutual interest.
This visit will be Putin’s first to India since 2021, with the two leaders meeting most recently on September 1 in Tianjin, China, during the SCO Summit.
The Kremlin has emphasized the significance of Putin’s visit to India, describing it as a crucial moment for both nations. The visit will enable a comprehensive discussion on various aspects of Russian-Indian relations, including political, trade, economic, scientific, technological, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation, as well as addressing international and regional issues.
The Ministry of External Affairs has confirmed that preparations for the annual summit are underway, with Putin’s visit in December aligning with the scheduled state visit.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar recently met with Putin in Moscow ahead of the summit, conveying PM Modi’s greetings and discussing preparations for the upcoming summit, along with regional and global developments.
The Kremlin has announced that Russia is actively preparing for Putin’s visit to India, which is expected to take place before the end of the year. Both countries are committed to strengthening their strategic partnership across various sectors.
India and Russia established their Declaration on Strategic Partnership in 2000, leading to annual summits and collaboration in political, defense, economic, and technological fields. In 2010, the partnership was elevated to a ‘Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership’.
Overall, Putin’s visit to India signifies a significant step in reinforcing the strong ties between the two countries and exploring opportunities for further cooperation and collaboration.
