Jammu and Kashmir Police Crack Down on Landlords Violating Tenant Verification Norms
Seven landlords in Jammu have found themselves in hot water as the Jammu and Kashmir Police have booked them for allegedly housing tenants without proper police verification. This action comes as part of a drive to ensure the safety and security of the upcoming Republic Day celebrations.
According to the police, Police Station Bahu Fort has filed five FIRs against house owners under Section 223 of the BNS for flouting the orders of the District Magistrate, Jammu, by failing to conduct mandatory police verification of their tenants. Additionally, two similar FIRs have been lodged at the police station Channi Himmat.
This crackdown is part of a routine verification and enforcement initiative aimed at ensuring strict compliance with tenant verification regulations, especially in light of the Republic Day festivities and the security measures associated with them.
The police have urged all house owners to strictly adhere to the guidelines for tenant verification and to cooperate with the authorities. They emphasized the importance of vigilance from citizens to maintain peace, law and order, and a safe environment during the upcoming Republic Day celebrations.
Last year on December 20, the Jammu and Kashmir Police introduced an online verification portal called “Kirayedar” to address issues in tenant reporting that have persisted despite enforcement actions, including FIRs against non-compliant landlords.
