Private Schools in Jammu and Kashmir Warned Against Charging Arbitrary Late Fees
The Fee Fixation and Regulatory Committee (FFRC) in Jammu and Kashmir has issued a stern warning to private schools in the Union Territory regarding the imposition of arbitrary late fees on students. The committee, chaired by Justice Sunil Hali, emphasized the importance of adhering to existing regulations and guidelines.
Several complaints have been received by the FFRC regarding private schools charging late fees in violation of the committee’s circular issued in 2023. According to the circular, schools are prohibited from imposing any late fees for a period of three months from the due date of the fee.
In line with the regulations, schools are not allowed to levy late fees if students fail to submit their monthly fees by the 15th of the following month. However, if the fees remain unpaid even after three months from the due date, a late fee of ₹30 per month may be charged.
Parents are advised by the committee to ensure timely payment of school fees to prevent any inconvenience to educational institutions.
