Residents of Pohrupeth in Kupwara District Appeal for J&K Bank Branch in Their Locality
In the northern region of Kashmir’s Kupwara district, residents of Pohrupeth have voiced their plea to the concerned authorities for the establishment of a branch of J&K Bank in their area to alleviate ongoing banking challenges.
Pohrupeth, a densely populated locality, relies heavily on horticulture as the primary source of livelihood for its inhabitants. The residents emphasize that the need to travel long distances for basic banking services not only consumes valuable time but also depletes resources, hindering their daily activities.
Dr. Owais, a resident, highlighted the time constraints faced by the community engaged in horticultural activities, stating that the frequent need to travel for banking requirements disrupts their routines. Another resident, Abid Maqbool, revealed that despite numerous appeals to the district administration and assurances from J&K Bank authorities regarding a potential branch establishment, no concrete steps have been taken yet.
The residents of Pohrupeth underscore the significance of their locality, serving as a pivotal village in the Pohru belt, making it an ideal location for a bank branch. They believe that a J&K Bank branch in Pohrupeth would not only benefit the local population but also cater to over 15 surrounding villages, thereby facilitating day-to-day financial transactions and stimulating economic activities in the region.
While a Grameen Bank branch was set up in the area nearly two decades ago, residents argue that it fails to meet the evolving banking needs of the community. The absence of an ATM facility at the existing branch further exacerbates the inconvenience faced by residents.
Once again, the residents urge J&K Bank authorities and the district administration to expedite the establishment of a full-fledged bank branch and installation of an ATM facility in Pohrupeth. This proactive step is envisioned to significantly alleviate the financial hardships encountered by the local populace.
