Crime Situation and Policing Outcomes
SSP Joginder Singh provided an overview of the crime scenario in Jammu district, noting that 4134 FIRs were registered in 2025, the lowest figure in the past five years. A total of 5,122 cases were disposed of, including both old and new cases, marking the highest disposal rate in the same period.
The decrease in cases was attributed to effective preventive actions, including PSA and PIT-NDPS detentions, bail contesting, and proactive policing efforts. The focus on crime prevention was evident, with 208 preliminary enquiries and sustained deployments contributing to the reduction.
Regarding crimes against property, approximately Rs 20 crore worth of property was reported stolen, with around Rs 10 crore worth of property recovered, reflecting a 50 percent recovery rate, the highest in five years. Specialized teams targeting various theft categories led to improved detection and recovery rates.
Action Against Organized Crime and Drugs
SSP Singh highlighted the crackdown on organized criminal networks, with 123 hardcore criminals and gangsters identified. This resulted in 59 FIRs against gangsters, 67 arrests, and the recovery of 49 illegal weapons. A zero-tolerance policy against organized and habitual offenders was strictly enforced.
In the war against drugs, 204 NDPS FIRs were registered, leading to 309 arrests. Notably, 11 individuals were detained under PIT-NDPS, with 48 convictions secured. The recovery of significant quantities of drugs, including heroin, ganja, and poppy straw, showcased the administration’s strong approach against drug-related crimes.
Cyber Crime and Recovery Efforts
SSP Singh also addressed cybercrime incidents, reporting 36 cyber FIRs and the disposal of 708 complaints. Refunds amounting to Rs 5.26 crore were issued, with Rs 6.69 crore lien-marked.
