Pakistan Delays Decision on Participation in T20 World Cup
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to make a final decision on their participation in the men’s T20 World Cup, with chairman Mohsin Naqvi indicating that the announcement will be made either on Friday or the following Monday. This decision comes after a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Lahore.
Naqvi shared on social media that the ICC matter was extensively discussed during the meeting with the Prime Minister. “I had a productive meeting with the Prime Minister and briefed him on the ICC matter. He directed that we resolve it while keeping all options on the table,” Naqvi tweeted.
“It was agreed that the final decision will be taken either on Friday or next Monday,” he added.
Sources reveal that Prime Minister Sharif emphasized extending support to Bangladesh, who were recently replaced by Scotland in the tournament beginning on February 7. Various scenarios were discussed, including the possibility of Pakistan not participating in the World Cup or playing in the tournament but skipping the highly anticipated match against India on February 15 to assist Bangladesh cricket in some way.
The PCB had previously stated that the government would have the final say on Pakistan’s involvement in the event due to the evolving situation following Bangladesh’s withdrawal from the competition.
Bangladesh had requested to move their matches to Sri Lanka citing security concerns in India, but the ICC rejected the proposal, stating that there was no verifiable threat. SPORTSLAHORE
