University of Kashmir Makes Biometric Attendance Mandatory for Affiliated Private Colleges
In a significant development, the University of Kashmir (KU) has announced that biometric attendance will be compulsory for students enrolled in the affiliated private colleges of the university. This decision aims to improve attendance tracking and ensure accountability among students and staff members.
The Assistant Registrar Dean Colleges Development Council (DCDC) of the University issued a circular detailing the new requirement. According to the circular, all Chairpersons and Principals of private affiliated colleges are mandated to implement biometric attendance for students and staff starting from the academic year 2026-27.
Each college has been directed to install biometric attendance machines before the commencement of the academic year and maintain accurate attendance records for future reference. Compliance with this directive is mandatory for all affiliated colleges.
The decision to enforce biometric attendance follows recent inspections conducted by the DCDC of KU in B.Ed colleges, where a significant number of students were found to be absent. This move aims to address concerns about poor attendance and ensure that students attend classes regularly to benefit from their education.
Notably, students with insufficient attendance were previously barred from appearing in semester exams following a surprise inspection conducted by the Dean College Development Council in 2025. The university is committed to promoting attendance and academic discipline among students to enhance the quality of education.
