Virat Kohli Becomes Fastest Player to Reach 28,000 Runs in International Cricket
Indian cricket star Virat Kohli achieved a remarkable milestone during the first ODI against New Zealand by becoming the fastest player to reach 28,000 runs across all formats in international cricket. This feat solidifies his position as one of the most prolific scorers in the history of the game, second only to the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
Virat Kohli reached the milestone in his 624th innings, surpassing Tendulkar who achieved the same feat in his 644th innings. Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangakkara, the third player in the prestigious 28,000-run club, accomplished this milestone in his 666th innings.
At 37 years old, Virat Kohli came into the match with 27,975 runs across all formats in international cricket. Tendulkar holds the record for the most runs with 34,357 from 782 innings, followed by Sangakkara with 28,016 runs from 666 innings.
Earlier in February 2023, Kohli set another record by becoming the fastest batter to reach 25,000 runs, achieving the mark in 549 innings, 28 innings quicker than Tendulkar. In October 2023, he surpassed the 26,000-run mark as the quickest player to reach that milestone. A year later, in September 2024, Kohli reached 27,000 runs in his 594th innings.
