Congress Vows to Intensify Struggle for Jammu and Kashmir Statehood Restoration in 2025
The Congress’ Jammu and Kashmir unit has labeled 2025 as another year of disappointment for the people of the region regarding their statehood demand. They have pledged to ramp up their efforts to restore statehood in the upcoming year.
Expressing concern over the increasing terrorism in the Union Territory, the Congress has called for effective measures to eradicate this menace.
According to the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), the failure of the Centre to fulfill its promise of restoring statehood, particularly after the 2024 Assembly elections, has left the people feeling betrayed. The delay in approving business rules has added to the hardships faced by the residents.
The Congress has accused the BJP-led central government of stripping the people of Jammu and Kashmir of their rightful rights and status. Without statehood, the benefits of democracy remain out of reach for the population.
The party has reiterated its commitment to intensify the fight for statehood restoration, democracy strengthening, and ensuring accountability. It aims to fulfill the promises made to the people, especially the youth who are grappling with high unemployment rates and limited job opportunities.
Highlighting the significance of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), the Congress has condemned its repeal as a major blow to the rural unemployed. The party has pledged to advocate for the continuation of this vital job scheme.
Citing the surge in terrorist activities in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir in 2025, the Congress has emphasized the need to crush terrorism to safeguard the people’s safety and security.
The party has also raised concerns about the alleged failure of the central government to provide compensation to the families affected by floods in the Union Territory.
Additionally, the Congress has called for the enhancement of grassroots democratic institutions through the prompt conduct of free, fair, and transparent elections for Panchayat and Urban local bodies.
