Jammu and Kashmir Qualify for Ranji Trophy Quarterfinals with Dominant Performance
The Jammu and Kashmir cricket team secured their spot in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals after a rain-affected draw against Himachal Pradesh in their Elite Group match at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Cricket Stadium, Amtar.
J&K, after posting a massive total of 771 in their first innings, managed to take a crucial first-innings lead against Himachal before rain interrupted play on the fourth day. The match was ultimately declared a draw with Himachal at 26/2 in their second innings.
Officials from the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) confirmed that the first-innings lead was enough to secure J&K’s qualification for the quarterfinals, where they are set to face Madhya Pradesh in the knockout stage.
The impressive performance by J&K was highlighted by their dominant batting display, which included three centuries. Shubham Pundir made a strong comeback with a remarkable 165, while Abid Mushtaq scored a magnificent 177. Kanhaiya Wadhwan also contributed with a century, with Abdul Samad and Paras Dogra providing valuable support with half-centuries.
Former J&K skipper Samiullah Beigh praised the team’s mindset and composure under pressure, emphasizing the outstanding batting performance in a must-win game.
Beigh also commended the lower middle order for their consistent contributions throughout the season, noting their importance in crucial matches.
Looking ahead to the quarterfinal clash against Madhya Pradesh, Beigh expressed confidence in the team’s ability to progress further in the tournament and urged the big players to deliver in crucial moments.
Cricket observer Shabir Ahmad from Srinagar highlighted the momentum J&K currently holds and the form of multiple players, indicating a positive outlook for their upcoming knockout match against Madhya Pradesh.
