Demand for National Law University in Jammu Echoes in Legislative Assembly
During the Legislative Assembly session on Tuesday, the demand for establishing a National Law University in Jammu resonated strongly, with BJP MLAs leading the protest on the issue.
At the commencement of the Question Hour, BJP MLAs rose in protest, emphasizing the need for a Law University to be set up in Jammu.
Addressing the assembly, Slathia expressed, “The students in Jammu are actively campaigning for the establishment of a National Law University, reflecting the sentiments of the people. While we do not oppose the idea of a Law University, it is imperative to have one in Jammu as well.”
Supporting Slathia’s stance, other BJP MLAs displayed placards advocating for the demand.
However, Congress MLA Nizamuddin Bhat raised concerns about the BJP MLAs’ use of placards in the House, citing it as a breach of the Assembly’s decorum.
Peoples Conference MLA Sajad Lone dismissed the BJP MLAs’ protest, highlighting that the National Law University is a state university and not a central university. He also pointed out that the university operates on a budget of Rs 50 crore.
Additionally, the issue of harassment faced by Kashmiris was brought up in the House by NC MLA Mubarak Gul and PDP’s Waheed Parra—(KNO)
