Srinagar- Jammu & Kashmir has achieved the second position in the Export Preparedness Index 2024 for small states, North-Eastern states, and Union Territories, as per the recent release by NITI Aayog.
As per the report obtained by Kashmir News, Jammu & Kashmir ranks second after Uttarakhand among 19 small states, North-Eastern states, and Union Territories, with an overall ranking of 14th.
The Export Preparedness Index (EPI) evaluates States and Union Territories based on their readiness to boost exports.
In 2024, Jammu & Kashmir exported goods worth Rs 1614 crore to various countries. Bangladesh emerged as the top importer, followed by the UAE, Oman, Myanmar, and the Philippines.
“The region recorded total exports of Rs 1,614 crore in FY24. Major export items include pharmaceuticals, woolen garments, and man-made yarn fabrics, indicating growth in pharmaceutical and textile trade,” as stated in the report.
The export profile of Jammu & Kashmir is characterized by a strong pharmaceutical sector and a rich heritage in textile manufacturing.
The primary export category from the state is medicaments, encompassing mixed/unmixed products, antibiotics, and vitamin-based medicines.
Based on data from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Jammu & Kashmir’s top exports include medicaments (Rs 370 crore), shawls and scarves (Rs 258 crore), synthetic staple fiber yarn (Rs 240 crore), cotton yarn (Rs 76 crore), nucleic acids (Rs 39 crore), lead (Rs 29 crore), pharmaceutical goods (Rs 28 crore), razors (Rs 28 crore), rice (Rs 27 crore), and nitrogen compounds (Rs 26 crore).
