J&K Government Appoints Nodal Officer for Stray Dog Management
The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has taken a significant step in addressing the issue of stray dogs by appointing a nodal officer at the administrative department level. This move aims to streamline the management of stray dogs and ensure a coordinated approach to tackling this growing problem.
According to a recent Government Order, Suheel Ahmad Lone, JKAS, Deputy Secretary to the Government, Jal Shakti Department, has been nominated as the Nodal Officer for the management of stray dogs. This appointment is part of an effort to enhance oversight and coordination within the department regarding matters related to stray dog management.
Furthermore, Technical Officers attached to all Chief Engineers of the Jal Shakti Department have also been designated as nodal officers within their respective jurisdictions. This decision extends the implementation mechanism to divisions and field units, ensuring a more effective approach to managing stray dogs.
The appointment of a nodal officer and the designation of technical officers reflect the government’s commitment to addressing the issues caused by stray dogs, including concerns related to safety, sanitation, and public health. The presence of stray dogs has become a growing concern in urban and semi-urban areas, prompting the need for structured management strategies.
To ensure wide dissemination and compliance, copies of the order have been circulated to various authorities, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, the offices of the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, senior secretariat officials, divisional commissioners, and deputy commissioners.
This order, approved by the competent authority and signed by senior officials of the Jal Shakti Department, will come into effect from January 1, 2026. The government is taking proactive steps to address the challenges posed by stray dogs and improve the overall well-being of the community.
