Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister to Present Union Territory’s Second Budget on February 6, 2025
The anticipation is high as Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, is gearing up to present the Union Territory’s second budget on February 6, 2025. This budget will outline the key priorities for development, infrastructure, and governance in the upcoming financial year.
Session Details
According to the tentative calendar issued by the Legislative Assembly Secretariat, the session will commence on February 2 with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha delivering his address to the House. This will mark his third address since the formation of the elected government in October 2024.
Following the LG’s address, the Assembly Secretariat has allocated three days for discussions on the Motion of Thanks to the LG’s address. These discussions are scheduled for February 3, 4, and 5, with the Chief Minister expected to reply to the debate on February 5.
Budget Presentation
The annual financial statement for 2026-27 and the supplementary statement of expenditure for 2025-26 will be presented in the House on February 6.
Subsequently, the general budget discussion will take place on February 7, 9, and 10, culminating in the Finance Minister’s response.
Session Schedule
As per the tentative calendar, demand of grants will be discussed between February 11 and 19. Following this, the Assembly will go into recess for one month and eight days, resuming on March 27 with the passage of the budget.
The calendar further outlines that March 28 has been earmarked for government business, with March 30 and April 1 dedicated to Private Member Bills, March 31 and April 2 for Private Member Resolutions, and April 4 again for government business.
