India’s Oil Diversification Strategy: Kremlin Responds to Trump’s Claims
In a recent statement, the Kremlin addressed US President Donald Trump’s claims regarding India’s oil purchasing decisions. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that India has the freedom to buy oil from any country and has a long history of diversifying its crude suppliers.
Peskov highlighted that Russia is not the sole supplier of oil and petroleum products to India, and it is common for India to procure these products from various countries. Therefore, the Kremlin sees nothing new in India’s decision to explore different sources for its oil imports.
Trump had previously suggested that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had agreed to cease buying Russian oil and instead opt for purchasing crude from the United States and potentially Venezuela. However, the Kremlin’s response indicates that India’s oil procurement practices have always been diverse and not solely reliant on Russian supplies.
This development underscores India’s strategic approach to securing its energy needs by exploring multiple sources for oil imports. By diversifying its suppliers, India aims to mitigate risks and ensure a stable and sustainable energy supply for its growing economy.
