Jammu & Kashmir Students Association Condemns Police Action Against Students
In a recent statement, the Jammu & Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) expressed strong condemnation for the police action taken against students in Srinagar. The action was intended to prevent a scheduled protest aimed at urging the government to address the reservation policy.
The JKSA emphasized that the heavy-handed measures deployed were solely to obstruct a peaceful protest advocating for a fair and equal reservation policy. Nasir Khuehami, the National Convenor of the Association, stated that they have always prioritized dialogue over discord.
Khuehami further highlighted that the students, as the future of the region, should not be treated as adversaries. He emphasized that the grievances raised by the students are constitutional in nature and should be addressed within a constitutional framework.
Although the planned sit-in was canceled due to administrative restrictions, the JKSA urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to shift from containment to conversation and from intimidation to inclusion.
The Association stressed the importance of conducting discussions on the reservation policy through genuine dialogue, ensuring that student voices are heard, concerns acknowledged, and a transparent solution reached. They called for an end to the criminalization of dissent and emphasized the need to listen to the youth seeking justice, equity, and adherence to constitutional principles.
The JKSA called on the government to reconsider its current policies and guidelines regarding student voices and actively engage with them on matters of public concern.
