Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah Pledges to Fulfill Promises, Initiates Regularisation Process for Daily Wagers
Emphasizing his government’s unwavering commitment to delivering on its promises, Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, announced on Tuesday the commencement of the regularisation process for daily wagers in the Union territory. This move reflects the administration’s dedication to uplifting the lives of the workforce and ensuring their stability and security.
During the discussions on the J-K Budget recently presented in the Assembly, Abdullah highlighted the budget’s role in laying a robust foundation for sustained economic growth, social welfare, and comprehensive development across the region. The focus remains on creating employment opportunities, enhancing infrastructure, improving public services, and ensuring transparent and timely delivery of developmental benefits to the people.
Abdullah, who also serves as the Finance Minister, underscored the government’s efforts towards generating employment, bolstering infrastructure, and enhancing public services for the welfare of the citizens. He reiterated the government’s commitment to initiating the regularisation process for daily wagers within the current year, providing them with a sense of security and stability in their employment.
Furthermore, Abdullah recalled the introduction of the SRO-based employment support for militancy-affected families back in 1996, a significant initiative that has benefitted numerous individuals over the years. This reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable sections of society and ensuring their well-being.
Focus on Welfare and Social Justice
The Chief Minister highlighted the welfare-oriented nature of the Budget, emphasizing the government’s foremost responsibility towards the poorest and most vulnerable sections of society. The Budget’s primary focus is on targeted welfare and social justice, aimed at uplifting the marginalized and ensuring their inclusion in the development process.
Abdullah addressed criticisms regarding the absence of certain populist measures in the Budget, reaffirming the government’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of the people over short-term gains. He emphasized the need for sustainable and inclusive development that benefits all sections of society.
Empowering the Youth and Promoting Entrepreneurship
Under the Mission YUVA, the government aims to empower the youth by promoting entrepreneurship, self-employment, and skill development. This initiative seeks to enable young individuals to become key contributors to economic growth and development, fostering a culture of innovation and enterprise in the region.
Abdullah highlighted the importance of expanding environment-friendly EV bus services while maintaining a balanced growth in other transport sectors. Improving EV connectivity will not only support economic activity but also contribute to sustainable development and environmental conservation.
Prioritizing Rural Development and Agriculture
The Budget prioritizes rural development, with a focus on agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries, and dairy sectors. Abdullah announced a new dairy development scheme aimed at increasing milk production and enhancing the quality of livestock, with measures in place to promote backyard poultry and enhance productivity in these sectors.
Additionally, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for industries availing government incentives to prioritize employment for local youth. Industrial units receiving subsidies have been urged to create job opportunities for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, contributing to the region’s economic growth and development.
Abdullah reiterated that the Budget for the year 2026-27 serves as a roadmap for inclusive growth, long-term development, and social justice. The government’s commitment to addressing regional aspirations and ensuring balanced development is evident through initiatives such as the restoration of the Darbar Move to Jammu, reflecting a holistic approach towards governance and development.
