IGNOU Launches B.Sc. Fabric and Apparel Design Programme
IGNOU has made a significant move by introducing a new programme – the B.Sc. Fabric and Apparel Design Programme under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme starting from 2026. This initiative aims to equip students with a thorough understanding of fabric production, apparel manufacturing processes, quality control, and supply chain management.
The newly launched programme is designed to educate students on textile science, fashion design, and garment construction, facilitating product development in the clothing sector. It also focuses on ensuring quality standards in fabric and apparel manufacturing.
Following the guidelines of the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, this programme offers a flexible and multidisciplinary approach to fashion education. Recognized by the UGC and AIU, graduates of this programme are eligible for both government and private sector jobs worldwide.
Dr. A H. Rizvi, the Regional Director of IGNOU, Regional Centre Srinagar, highlights the job opportunities that this programme offers, such as textile and fabric designer, fashion designer, apparel pattern maker, and technical designer. Moreover, students can explore entrepreneurship and start-up opportunities in the fashion industry.
From January 2026 onwards, eligible students can enroll in this programme by applying through the designated link provided by IGNOU. This initiative not only prepares students for a career in fashion but also opens avenues for them to become fashion illustrators, fashion merchandisers, visual merchandisers, and fashion educators.
Overall, the B.Sc. Fabric and Apparel Design Programme by IGNOU promises a comprehensive understanding of the fabric and apparel manufacturing industry, equipping students with the necessary technical knowledge and skills for a successful career in the fashion world.
