National Conference Leader Highlights Aga Ruhullah Mehdi’s Different Approach
The National Conference’s senior leader and Rajya Sabha member, Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan, recently addressed Aga Ruhullah Mehdi’s comments, emphasizing that they reflect a unique perspective on issues rather than opposition to the party. Ramzan mentioned that they continue to have regular meetings during Parliament sessions.
During an interview with Kashmir News Service (KNS), Ramzan stressed that internal debates within the party should not be misconstrued as disloyalty. He pointed out that Aga Ruhullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have diverse approaches to problem-solving, indicating that this difference in strategies does not signify opposition to the National Conference.
Ramzan revealed that he frequently engages in discussions on parliamentary matters with Aga Ruhullah, acknowledging the latter’s passion and potential as a young leader. He expressed well wishes for Aga Ruhullah’s political journey, hoping for his success and good health.
Shifting focus to administrative powers in the Union Territory, Ramzan highlighted the ongoing issue of the elected government lacking full authority. He emphasized the need for clear business rules to delineate the roles of the Lieutenant Governor, the cabinet, and elected representatives.
Addressing concerns about CM Omar Abdullah’s positive remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ramzan explained that it is natural to show respect to the Prime Minister due to his position.
Regarding the restoration of full powers promised after delimitation, Ramzan underscored that despite the strong mandate received by the elected government, statehood has not been reinstated yet, marking it as a top priority for them.
On the issue of violence and attacks on Kashmiri residents outside the UT, Ramzan condemned the mistreatment of J&K youth and workers. He mentioned Home Minister Amit Shah’s directive to ensure fair treatment for people from Jammu and Kashmir, with actions already initiated against perpetrators of violence.
Discussing the situation of J&K prisoners held outside the UT, Ramzan expressed concern about their conditions and highlighted the Home Minister’s assurance of legal aid, medical support, and family access for such prisoners.
Turning to the topic of reservation, Ramzan reaffirmed his party’s support for it, mentioning its inclusion in their manifesto. He disclosed that a Cabinet Sub-Committee had submitted a report following Supreme Court guidelines, which was approved by the UT cabinet and awaits the Lieutenant Governor’s signature for implementation.
