Capital Infusion: IUST and BGSBU Receive Significant Funding from J&K Government

The Higher Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir has shown tremendous support to Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) in Rajouri and the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) in Awantipora by providing a combined capital infusion exceeding Rs 357 crore since their establishment.
According to the response to a query by MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, BGSBU has been allocated Rs 59.91 crore, while IUST has received a substantial amount of Rs 297.54 crore in capital assistance over the years.
The funding to IUST commenced in 2008–09 and has been consistent over the years, with a focus on enhancing infrastructure and expanding the institution. Noteworthy allocations include Rs 2,155.58 crore in 2023–24, Rs 2,820.70 crore in 2024–25, and a budget of Rs 2,749.55 crore for 2025–26.
On the other hand, BGSBU started receiving capital infusion in 2011–12, with intermittent support in subsequent years. Recent allocations for BGSBU comprise Rs 703.88 crore in 2021–22, Rs 422.98 crore in 2022–23, Rs 183.11 crore in 2023–24, Rs 44 crore in 2024–25, and a substantial amount of Rs 187 crore earmarked for 2025–26.
The Minister overseeing the Higher Education Department disclosed this information through official documents presented to the Legislative Assembly, highlighting the significant financial backing provided to these educational institutions.
