New Delhi- Recently, the Union Cabinet in India has given its approval for the extension of the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) until the financial year 2030-31. This initiative is aimed at ensuring old-age income security for individuals working in the unorganised sector.
Launched on May 9, 2015, the APY scheme has successfully enrolled over 8.66 crore subscribers as of January 19, 2026. The continuation of the scheme will be supported by the government to enhance promotional and developmental activities, including gap funding.
The primary goal of APY is to provide a guaranteed minimum pension ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 per month starting at the age of 60, based on individual contributions.
The Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of expanding outreach among unorganised workers through awareness campaigns, capacity building, and other promotional efforts to increase the scheme’s accessibility.
