Minister Javed Ahmed Rana Reviews Public Health Engineering, Irrigation, and Forest Sector Progress in Kalakote–Sunderbani
Minister Javed Ahmed Rana, responsible for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment, and Tribal Affairs, recently conducted a thorough review of the ongoing projects in the Public Health Engineering (PHE), Irrigation, and Forest sectors in the Kalakote–Sunderbani region. The primary objective of the review was to improve service delivery, address existing challenges, and enhance infrastructure to benefit the local population.
The review meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including MLA Kalakote–Sunderbani Thakur Randhir Singh, Chief Conservator of Forests Jammu, Conservator of Forests, Chief Engineer PHE Jammu, Chief Engineer Irrigation & Flood Control Jammu, and Divisional Forest Officer Rajouri, among others.
Focus on Public Health Engineering Sector
During the review of PHE sector works, Minister Rana instructed officials to assess non-functional machinery and incomplete projects meticulously. He emphasized the importance of identifying underlying causes such as mechanical failures, maintenance issues, and logistical challenges. The departments were tasked with developing time-bound action plans to restore functionality promptly.
Rana highlighted the necessity of upgrading existing PHE and irrigation infrastructure, including pumping stations, water supply schemes, and irrigation channels, to ensure reliable and sustainable services for the public. Special attention was given to reviving defunct dug wells in water-scarce areas.
Emphasis on Irrigation and Flood Control
The Minister reviewed the progress of irrigation and flood control works, urging officials to ensure quality execution and timely completion of projects to protect vulnerable areas. Two irrigation projects under NABARD were proposed to enhance infrastructure in the constituency, with Rana stressing the importance of expediting procedural formalities for their swift implementation.
Forest Sector Development
A detailed assessment of forest sector activities was also conducted, focusing on works under CAPEX and CAMPA, including boundary construction and plantation initiatives. The status of Nagar Van at Sialsui was reviewed, emphasizing its development and protection. Progress under the Green India Mission was evaluated, with a directive to prevent encroachments and enhance conservation efforts.
Tribal Development and Inclusive Growth
Rana reiterated the government’s commitment to tribal development, emphasizing inclusive growth and improved access to basic services for tribal communities in Kalakote–Sunderbani. He directed officials to prioritize the implementation of welfare schemes and sustainable livelihood opportunities to enhance the quality of life for tribal populations.
