World Heritage Week 2025 Celebrations in Srinagar
Srinagar- In celebration of World Heritage Week 2025, the Directorate of Archives, Archaeology, and Museums in J&K launched a Special Exhibition featuring Archival Records and Rare Manuscripts at the Art Gallery, Shergarhi Complex.
Leading the inaugural ceremony was Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, who also initiated a Heritage Walk from the Shergarhi Complex to the SPS Museum at Lal Mandi. The Heritage Walk attracted enthusiastic participation from heritage enthusiasts, scholars, and students, all united in promoting heritage awareness and conservation.
During his address, Divisional Commissioner Garg emphasized the importance of World Heritage Week in reconnecting individuals with their cultural heritage. He highlighted the exhibition as a gateway to Kashmir’s rich historical and cultural treasures, encouraging students and scholars to explore the gallery for an enhanced understanding of the region’s identity.
Garg acknowledged Kashmir’s diverse cultural heritage, blending Shaivism, Sufism, and Buddhism, with renowned traditions in arts, crafts, and music that have garnered global recognition. The Heritage Week serves as a tribute to these invaluable sites.
He also shed light on ongoing efforts by the Directorate to restore and preserve cultural and archaeological landmarks across Jammu and Kashmir. Garg emphasized the significance of revisiting the past, strengthening heritage connections, and raising awareness about conservation during World Heritage Week.
Over the past four years, substantial endeavors have been made to safeguard local heritage, ensuring its preservation for future generations. Garg stressed the need for sustained awareness among students and the community to uphold Kashmir’s cultural legacy.
