Srinagar, Feb 6: AIP Chief Spokesperson Raises Concerns Over Baramulla-Uri Railway Line Alignment
On Friday, Inam Un Nabi, the Chief Spokesperson of Awami Itihaad Party (AIP), expressed serious concerns regarding the proposed alignment of the Baramulla-Uri railway line during a meeting between Member of Parliament from Baramulla, Er Rashid, and Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu inside the Parliament Chamber.
The meeting, which was attended by senior officers of the Railway Ministry, saw Er Rashid highlighting that the current alignment would pass through densely populated residential areas of Baramulla town such as Sherwani Colony, Jetty Khawajabagh, and Fatehpora. This would lead to significant displacement, demolition of homes, and damage to essential community infrastructure.
Inam Un Nabi mentioned that Er Rashid urged the MoS Railways to reconsider the alignment, explore alternative routes that avoid residential areas, and engage in meaningful consultations with local stakeholders before finalizing the project. Additionally, a delegation of Baramulla residents is set to meet with the Railway Ministry in the near future to address their concerns directly.
Furthermore, Er Rashid previously raised this issue with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, advocating for a more compassionate and community-centric realignment of the Baramulla-Uri railway line. AIP stands in solidarity with the residents of Baramulla and is committed to advocating for justice, fairness, and sustainable development in this matter.
