Heightened Security Measures Implemented Across Kashmir Valley for New Year Celebrations
As the New Year approaches, security has been significantly bolstered in the Kashmir Valley, particularly at tourist destinations, to ensure the safety of visitors and residents, according to officials.
Key tourist spots are under multi-layered security cover, with a notable increase in the presence of security forces. Surveillance and monitoring have been intensified throughout the valley, particularly at venues hosting New Year celebrations, to prevent any potential security threats.
Authorities have set up additional checkpoints at important entry points, increased patrolling, and conducted surprise inspections along vital roadways to preempt any untoward incidents. Vehicles entering and exiting Srinagar are undergoing thorough searches, with heightened alertness observed at major tourist attractions.
Recently, Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Kashmir Zone, V K Birdi, conducted a comprehensive security review and preparedness assessment for the upcoming New Year festivities. During a security meeting at the Police Control Room in Kashmir, officers presented their security arrangements and deployment strategies.
The IGP emphasized the importance of completing all preparations well in advance, strengthening checkpoint surveillance, especially during nighttime, and maintaining heightened vigilance at vulnerable locations across the valley. Birdi underscored the necessity of remaining vigilant against any elements that may jeopardize peace and security.
With an anticipated surge in tourist arrivals during the New Year celebrations, IGP Kashmir stressed the implementation of multi-layered security measures at key tourist destinations, including cable car terminals, forest trails, popular tourist spots, and major access routes.
