Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party Criticizes House Arrest of Srinagar MP
The Senior Vice President of Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP), Ghulam Hassan Mir, expressed his disapproval of the house arrest of Srinagar MP Agha Ruhullah on Sunday. Ruhullah was supposed to participate in a peaceful protest regarding the reservation issue earlier in the day.
Mir condemned the act of preventing students and political leaders from conducting a sit-in protest, stating that it goes against the principles of democracy and undermines people’s trust in the system.
He emphasized that peaceful protest is a fundamental democratic right and should not be viewed as a threat. Mir highlighted the importance of allowing individuals to express their opinions through peaceful means.
According to Mir, the government should have permitted the protest, especially considering that the youth were peacefully raising concerns. He believed that stifling voices through force or restrictions sends a negative message, particularly when young people should feel included in decision-making processes.
Addressing the issue of reservation, Mir stressed the need for open dialogue rather than imposing restrictions. He urged authorities to facilitate discussions to ensure that the youth feel listened to instead of being driven to frustration.
Democracy, in Mir’s view, thrives on peaceful dissent and the freedom of expression. He asserted that respecting diverse opinions strengthens relations between India and Kashmir, rather than causing division.
The criticism voiced by Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party signifies a call for greater transparency, dialogue, and inclusivity in addressing public concerns. Mir’s statements underscore the importance of upholding democratic values and fostering a culture of peaceful expression.
