Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s Strong Message to Pakistan on Indus Water Treaty
In a recent statement, Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s firm stance on the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan. He emphasized that the treaty has been put on hold, and Pakistan’s objections will no longer be entertained.
During his visit to Jammu and Kashmir to inspect power projects in Reasi, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts, Khattar addressed media queries regarding Pakistan’s objections to hydro-electric projects in the region.
Khattar stated, “The Prime Minister has clearly conveyed to Pakistan that the Indus Water Treaty is on hold, and we will prioritize our country’s interests when it comes to utilizing the water resources of rivers like Chenab. Pakistan’s objections are no longer a concern for us.”
He further emphasized, “Whether it’s about power generation, irrigation, or any other use of water, our focus remains on serving our country’s people and farmers. Our priority lies in meeting our country’s requirements.”
Addressing the controversy surrounding the Ratle power project, Khattar mentioned that no written complaints about anti-national elements being employed at the project site have been received yet. However, he assured that appropriate action would be taken upon receiving any such complaints.
Regarding the overall progress of power projects in Jammu and Kashmir, Khattar assured that all issues affecting the projects have been resolved, and they are advancing smoothly towards completion.
Highlighting the importance of the ongoing projects, Khattar emphasized the need to complete projects like Ratle, Salal, and Sawalkote on time to enhance power generation and benefit both the region and the country.
During his visit, Khattar also directed the timely commissioning of Pakal Dul, Kiru, and Kwar projects by specific deadlines to ensure a steady supply of power to the region by 2028.
Inspecting various projects under construction by Chenab Valley Power Projects (CVPP) Limited, Khattar praised the workers for their dedication and commitment to completing the projects despite challenging conditions.
Before concluding his visit, Khattar reviewed projects like Salal, Sawalkot, and Ratle, as well as inspected NHPC’s Dulhasti Power Station, acknowledging the efforts of officials and workers involved in these crucial initiatives.
