Child Marriage Awareness Campaign in Bandipora
In a significant step towards eradicating the harmful practice of child marriage, Mission Vatsalya Bandipora recently conducted an extensive outreach program in Bankoot Block of the district. The initiative was part of the nationwide Child Marriage Mukt Bharat campaign aimed at raising awareness about the detrimental effects of early marriage.
The primary objective of the program was to educate the public about the social, legal, and psychological repercussions of child marriage, emphasizing the strict enforcement of child protection laws. Officials from the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Child Helpline (CHL), and Child Helpdesk (CHD) Bandipora played a pivotal role in disseminating crucial information.
Participants were informed that the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, strictly prohibits marriage below the age of 18 years for girls and 21 years for boys. Any violation of this law is considered a punishable offense and a grave infringement of Child Rights. The administration reiterated its unwavering commitment to ensuring the well-being of children in the district.
Supervisor CHL Bandipora, addressing the audience, emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant and reporting any instances of child marriage promptly to the Child Helpline 1098 or relevant authorities. The community engagement extended to posting awareness posters in key locations and distributing Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) material to enhance public awareness.
The active participation of students, staff, and local residents underscored the collective determination to combat the social evil of child marriage in Bandipora. By fostering a safe, healthy, and dignified childhood for every child, the community is taking a crucial step towards building a better future.
