Afghan All-Rounder Mohammad Nabi Fined for Umpire Disobedience in South Africa Match
During a recent match against South Africa, veteran Afghan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi found himself in hot water after disobeying the umpire’s decision, resulting in a 15% fine of his match fees.
The incident took place in the 14th over of Afghanistan’s innings when Nabi engaged in a heated argument with the umpires regarding bowler Lungi Ngidi’s wristband.
According to an ICC statement, Nabi violated Article 2.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which pertains to disobeying an umpire’s instruction during an international match.
Along with the monetary fine, Nabi also received a demerit point for this offense, marking his first breach within a 24-month period.
Nabi promptly admitted the violation and accepted the sanction proposed by David Gilbert of the ICC International Panel of Match Referees, thereby avoiding the need for a formal hearing.
The charge against Nabi was raised by on-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, with support from third umpire Nitin Menon and fourth umpire K.N. Ananthapadmanabhan.
In a thrilling T20 showdown, South Africa narrowly defeated Afghanistan after two Super Overs in what was deemed one of the greatest matches in recent times.
