Dr. Rouf Jeelani, a dental doctor based in Srinagar, is facing a heart-wrenching situation as his wife remains hospitalized in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, after suffering a stroke during a pilgrimage. Dr. Jeelani had traveled to Saudi Arabia with his wife to perform Umrah when the unexpected medical emergency occurred.
His wife’s critical condition has left Dr. Jeelani pleading for help from the government to facilitate her return to Kashmir for proper medical care. The doctors in Mecca have informed the family that her recovery might be a long and challenging process, potentially stretching over several months.
Desperate to have his wife closer to home and her support system, Dr. Jeelani has reached out to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, urging them to intervene with the Union Ministry of External Affairs for a medical evacuation and airlift to Srinagar.
Expressing the overwhelming burden of managing a medical crisis in a foreign land, Dr. Jeelani emphasized the urgent need for assistance in bringing his wife back for continued treatment. He stated, “This is the most difficult time of my life.”
Family members, friends, and the local community have joined in the plea for swift action on humanitarian grounds. They stress the importance of prompt arrangements for her transfer to enhance her chances of recovery.
Despite the challenging circumstances, the family remains hopeful that the authorities will respond to their appeal and expedite the process of bringing Dr. Jeelani’s wife home for the care she urgently needs.
