Mughal Road Closed for Sixth Day Due to Severe Frost, Srinagar-Jammu Highway Open for Traffic
In Rajouri and Ramban, the Mughal Road has been inaccessible for the sixth consecutive day as severe frost has created slippery conditions, delaying its restoration. Meanwhile, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway has remained open for the movement of Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and heavy vehicles in both directions.
Despite expectations of partial opening on Saturday, the Mughal Road remained closed due to increased slippery conditions caused by fresh frost. The closure was initiated after heavy snowfall on Monday, which accumulated over the road stretch.
Efforts by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to reduce slipperiness by sprinkling salt on the road surface have been ongoing. A fresh inspection is scheduled for Sunday to reassess the road conditions for potential restoration.
On the other hand, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, a vital link between Kashmir and the rest of the country, has been facilitating two-way traffic for LMVs and heavy vehicles. Traffic authorities have emphasized the need for fair weather and good road conditions for smooth traffic flow.
While the highway has remained open, traffic movement has been slow at various points due to single-lane road conditions and breakdowns of heavy vehicles. Choke points like Balli Nullah, Dewal, Nashri-Dalwas, Maroog, and Kishtwari Pather have experienced congestion.
Drivers are advised to plan journeys during daylight hours to avoid potential inconveniences. Night travel is discouraged, especially between Nashri and Navyug tunnels, to prevent delays and congestion.
Adherence to lane discipline, traffic regulations, and refraining from overtaking or driving on the wrong side is crucial to maintaining traffic flow. Traffic police, district police, and highway patrol units are actively regulating traffic to ensure safe passage.
Travelers are urged to stay informed about the latest traffic advisories before embarking on their journeys to avoid any disruptions. Stay updated for any changes in road conditions and traffic regulations.
