Chilly Weather Continues in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh
The cold weather persists in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as temperatures remain low across the region. Several areas in the Kashmir Valley and higher altitudes have recorded sub-zero temperatures, according to officials.
Kashmir Valley
In the Kashmir region, Srinagar saw a minimum temperature of 1.3 degrees Celsius, while the airport recorded minus 1.2 degrees Celsius. The famous tourist spot, Gulmarg, experienced frigid temperatures at minus 9.0 degrees Celsius, with Sonamarg even colder at minus 10.6 degrees Celsius.
Other areas in the Valley also saw freezing temperatures. Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 5.3 degrees Celsius, followed by Kupwara at minus 3.1 degrees Celsius and Shopian at minus 2.6 degrees Celsius. Baramulla, Bandipora, and Ganderbal registered temperatures below zero as well, with Qazigund at minus 0.3 degrees Celsius.
South Kashmir wasn’t spared from the cold, with Anantnag and Kulgam recording minimum temperatures of 0.3 degrees Celsius and 1.1 degrees Celsius, respectively. Pulwama saw temperatures drop to 0.1 degrees Celsius, while Beerwah in Budgam district experienced a chilling minus 2.9 degrees Celsius.
Jammu Region
In contrast, the Jammu region experienced relatively higher temperatures. Jammu city saw a low of 9.3 degrees Celsius, with Katra not far behind at 8.4 degrees Celsius. Banihal, Batote, and Bhaderwah also saw milder temperatures, with Udhampur recording 3.6 degrees Celsius.
Ladakh
Over in Ladakh, Leh faced a bone-chilling minus 10.4 degrees Celsius, while Hanle was the coldest at minus 16.0 degrees Celsius. Kargil and Nubra Valley also experienced freezing temperatures at minus 9.2 degrees Celsius and minus 9.3 degrees Celsius, respectively.
