Kashmir Artisans Face Safety Concerns while Trading Outside Jammu and Kashmir
Amidst growing concerns and fear, the Kashmir Artisans Welfare Organisation (KAWO) has raised alarm over the recent incidents of assaults on Kashmiri traders, particularly those involved in the traditional shawl trade, operating outside Jammu and Kashmir. The patron of KAWO, G M Dug, expressed deep worry regarding the safety and security of Kashmiri artisans and traders who travel to various parts of the country for their livelihood.
For decades, Kashmiri traders have been known for their craftsmanship, peaceful conduct, and significant contribution to local economies across India and globally. However, the recent surge in attacks and the circulation of distressing videos on social media have instilled fear and anxiety among Kashmiri traders, jeopardizing their legitimate business activities.
G M Dug emphasized that these assaults not only endanger the livelihoods of Kashmiri traders but also pose a threat to the longstanding tradition of inter-state trade conducted by Kashmiri artisans. The organization strongly denounced these attacks and called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene promptly by directing state governments and law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of Kashmiri traders nationwide and take swift action against the perpetrators.
Furthermore, KAWO appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to address this issue with concerned states and implement effective measures to safeguard Kashmiri artisans and traders working outside the Union Territory. The organization emphasized the importance of upholding the safety and security of Kashmiri traders to preserve their contribution to the economy and maintain the rich tradition of inter-state trade.
