Protests Lead to Suspension of J&K Students from Rajasthan University
More than 30 students from Jammu and Kashmir have faced suspension from a private university in Rajasthan following their peaceful protests against the lack of necessary approvals for a nursing course. The students, enrolled in the B.Sc Nursing program at Mewar University in Chittorgarh, raised concerns about the absence of recognition from the Rajasthan Nursing Council and the Indian Nursing Council, putting their academic careers at risk.
Despite assurances from the university administration that approvals would be obtained, no progress has been made, leaving over 50 Kashmiri students uncertain about the validity of their degrees and future job prospects. The National Convenor of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, Nasir Khuehami, highlighted the administration’s failure to address the students’ legitimate concerns and instead resorting to punitive measures by suspending them.
The Association has called upon Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene and resolve the issue with the Rajasthan government. They have also appealed to Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma to either secure the necessary approvals for the course or facilitate the transfer of students to a recognized institution without any academic setbacks.
The suspension of students for participating in a peaceful protest has been critiqued as an attempt to suppress dissent, while running a professional course without statutory approvals is deemed a serious regulatory lapse. The Association emphasizes the importance of addressing these issues promptly to safeguard the interests of the affected students.
