Srinagar to Welcome First State-of-the-Art School for Specially Abled Children
In a groundbreaking development, Srinagar is on the verge of inaugurating its first-ever state-of-the-art school designed specifically for children with disabilities. This initiative marks a significant milestone as it will be the sole institution of its kind in the entire Kashmir region. Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, revealed that the Abhinandan School is currently under construction to cater to children with visual and hearing impairments from across the Kashmir division.
Labroo emphasized that the Social Welfare Department is actively overseeing various crucial projects in the district, including the Palash and Parisha special schools. Recent enhancements have been implemented to address the educational, sports, and healthcare needs of the community. The Abhinandan School stands out as a pivotal and unique project for the city of Srinagar.
Efforts are underway to ensure timely completion of the Abhinandan School, with all relevant departments, such as R and B, power, water, revenue, police, planning, and social welfare, working in close coordination. While the project deadline is set for 2027, the focus remains on achieving quality outcomes ahead of schedule.
Prioritizing Development in 2026
Looking ahead to 2026, the Deputy Commissioner outlined key priorities aimed at completing all sanctioned projects within Srinagar. Labroo stressed the importance of avoiding interruptions in projects with approved funding. He underscored the significance of enhancing connectivity, finalizing infrastructure projects, alleviating traffic congestion, and ensuring optimal land utilization without encroachments.
Labroo also expressed concern regarding the escalating number of fire incidents in Srinagar city. He urged residents to adhere to safety guidelines issued by the authorities, including conducting regular audits of electrical appliances to match usage with electrical load. The Deputy Commissioner cautioned against careless handling of electrical equipment and highlighted the risk posed by storing dry grass near residential areas, which can heighten the likelihood of fires. He encouraged the public to promptly report any incidents to facilitate swift responses from fire and emergency teams.
As the city prepares to welcome the Abhinandan School and continues its focus on developmental projects, the collective efforts of various departments and community members are instrumental in fostering inclusive growth and enhancing the overall well-being of Srinagar’s residents. (KNS)
