The Controversial Remarks and Resolved Boycott in Bangladesh Cricket
Following the release of pacer Mustafizur Rahman by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) from IPL 2026 on the instruction of BCCI, ex Bangladesh captain Tamil Iqbal suggested dialogue between the cricketing nations to resolve the T20 World Cup deadlock. In response, Nazmul, current Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director, labeled Iqbal as an “Indian agent.” He further stirred controversy by stating that BCB does not owe the team any compensation if players miss the T20 World Cup due to their lack of major trophies.
Consequently, the players decided to boycott all forms of cricket and demanded Nazmul’s removal from the BCB. While Nazmul was relieved of his duties as head of the finance committee, he retained his position as director. Despite this, the cricketers eventually decided to end their boycott and resume playing.
As a result of the turmoil, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2026 matches originally set for January 15, 2026, have been rescheduled to January 16. Subsequent matches have also been shifted by a day, with games initially planned for January 16 and 17 now taking place on January 17 and 18.
Furthermore, the Eliminator and Qualifier 1 matches, initially slated for January 19, have been moved to January 20. These developments mark a significant shift in the cricketing landscape of Bangladesh. (ANI)
