Rising Karting Star Atiqa Mir Makes History at WSK Super Master Series
At just eleven years old, Atiqa Mir from India has taken the karting world by storm with her impressive debut at the WSK Super Master Karting Series in La Conca, Italy. In a field dominated by seasoned male drivers, Atiqa made history by setting the second fastest time in qualifying, becoming the first Indian to achieve this feat.
Transitioning from the mini to junior category in 2026, Atiqa embraced the challenge of competing in the OKNJ class for the first time. Despite being one of the youngest drivers on the grid, she showcased remarkable speed and skill, narrowly missing out on pole position by just a tenth of a second.
Throughout the weekend, Atiqa demonstrated her prowess on the track, consistently securing front row starts in the heat races and even claiming the Fastest Lap in one of them. Her performance culminated in a historic achievement as the first Indian to finish second on debut in the OKNJ Class.
However, the final race on Sunday proved to be a test of resilience for Atiqa. A mechanical failure on the pre-grid saw her kart unable to start, relegating her to 18th place on the grid. Despite starting at a disadvantage, she displayed remarkable determination, making an impressive recovery to finish 14th out of 37 drivers.
Reflecting on her debut weekend, Atiqa expressed her love for the fast-paced nature of the OKNJ category and praised her team for their hard work and support. Despite the challenges faced, she remained positive and focused on the progress made.
Atiqa’s father, Asif Mir, a former Formula Asia Vice-Champion, commended his daughter’s performance, highlighting her natural talent and determination. He emphasized the need to continue honing her skills and nurturing her potential as a racing prodigy.
Atiqa’s remarkable debut at the WSK Super Master Series not only showcases her talent but also serves as a testament to her dedication and perseverance in the face of adversity. As she continues to make strides in the world of karting, the future looks bright for this young racing sensation.
