Union Home Minister Amit Shah Chairs Security Review Meeting in Jammu
Union Home Minister Amit Shah conducted a security review meeting in Jammu on Friday, joined by Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi and other senior officials from the security establishment. The aim of the meeting was to evaluate the current security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, amidst heightened anti-terror operations.
Significance of the Meeting
The meeting gains significance due to recent successful anti-terror operations resulting in the elimination of four Pakistan-native terrorists associated with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) after multiple encounters in Kathua, Udhampur, and Kishtwar districts of Jammu region over the past fortnight.
Continued Focus on Counter-Terror Operations
This marks the second security review meeting chaired by Home Minister Shah within a month. The previous meeting on January 8 in Delhi emphasized the continuation of counter-terror operations with a focus on targeting terror infrastructure and financing in “mission mode.” Shah reiterated his commitment to making all necessary resources available to achieve a “terror-free” Jammu and Kashmir expeditiously.
Key Attendees
Key attendees at the meeting included Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, and other high-ranking military, police, civil, and intelligence officials. The gathering took place at Lok Bhavan.
Review of Ongoing Operations
The meeting commenced shortly after Shah’s visit to the Hiranagar sector of Kathua district, where he interacted with BSF troops. Discussions were anticipated to cover ongoing anti-terrorist operations, the anti-infiltration grid, and measures to counter drone activities from across the border, with intelligence reports suggesting the presence of terrorists awaiting opportunities for infiltration.
Previous Review Meeting
Earlier, Home Secretary Govind Mohan led a review meeting during his visit on January 14 and 15, further underscoring the government’s commitment to addressing security challenges in the region.
